Don’t know what kind of modeling portfolio is best for you? Below are 5 different types of modeling portfolios to have as a plus size model!
Whether you’re signed to an agency or not, having your portfolio together is important! You never know when an opportunity or audition will arise and being prepared could save you and make you $$$!
This post is all about different modeling portfolios every plus size model should know about.
5 Modeling Portfolios
1. Physical Book
Having a physical book is the most common modeling portfolio to have especially if you want to get into high fashion and print modeling.
Major cities like New York or Hong Kong love the physical book because they are looking for quality, professionalism, and they move at a bit of a slower pace.
I like this modeling portfolio from Amazon because you can customize the side with your name!
Pro: you get to see the history of your portfolio over time. Con: you have to make sure to constantly update your book with your newest photos.
2. Website
Having a website portfolio has never been easier! You can make a website with free templates on sites like Wix or Squarespace. Or you can buy an inexpensive pre-made theme to install from Etsy.
In general, having a website with your name and a gallery section is great because companies and brands will be able to easily find you, it’ll come up right away on a google search, and you can pull it up anywhere at anytime.
It’s also a great place to list all your socials in one place so people can find you everywhere!!
This is my current portfolio on my website using Wix. You genuinely don’t need anything fancy. It can just be simple and chic with your updated photos. I would suggest not posting photos that are more than 2 years old.
3. Instagram
Agencies and companies love to see portfolio type of Instagrams. It’s an efficient way to look at lots of pictures fast to see your past work and see if you’re a fit!
When making your Instagram more into a portfolio of your work. It’s important to keep in mind you don’t want an over flow of super personal things.
Like for example, you might be super close with your family and post all your family BBQ’s and birthday parties. That’s not really stuff agencies and brands care to see and they don’t want to search through all your photos to find what they’re looking for.
To be clear, it’s okay to have a personal photo here and there, but you don’t want it to be the majority of your feed.
If you’re someone that loves to use Instagram for personal things yet still want to share your modeling career/start a brand, I suggest having two Instagrams. One for work such as modeling shots and creating content and one for personal.
4. Google Album
Let’s say you haven’t made your website and you don’t have a physical portfolio yet. The next best thing for you to do is create a google album in your google photos. I suggest having one on hand regardless.
Google albums are awesome because they’re an easy way to share photos with an agency or brand right away! It’s easy and convenient with everything in one place so you don’t have to fumble through years of photos on your phone either.
I personally have an album for each one of my agencies.
5. Agency Portfolio
If you are signed to an agency, they should automatically be making you a portfolio on their homepage website. It should also be printable to double as a comp card.
Below are a couple of my past agency portfolios that were on their websites to get an idea. For the most part, you should be able to find anyone’s portfolio on their agencies website.
Friendly reminder: it’s your job to send your agency all of your newest photos so they can update the website with your most current photos. Brands and casting agents want to see your most current photos!!
