Need help learning how to invest in yourself behind financial means? Below are eleven easy ways you can start investing in yourself for absolutely FREE!!
Investing in yourself doesn’t have to cost thousands of dollars!
To be quite honest, usually the best things you can do for yourself are the most simple ones. AND the simple things are usually the hardest to do which is why it’s important to do them and invest in yourself!!!
You are the best project you will work on your whole life and only YOU can live in YOUR body so why not make it a beautiful life full of growth and opportunity?
This post is all about how to invest in yourself for free.
Investing in Yourself
1. Meditate
There are SO many studies showing how even 5 – 10 minutes of meditation can improve your overall life and life quality.
However, meditation doesn’t have to just be sitting in silence with your eyes closed. Meditation is anything that helps you with reflection and contemplation. Such as going on a hike, reading a book, listening to music, and so on.
Below are a couple easy ways I personally mediate…
‘Meditations For Women Who Do Too Much’
I love this book because it has a daily meditation alongside a quote and brief yet in depth explanation for the meditation of the day.
I HIGHLY recommend this book and it’s small so it’s perfect to keep by your night stand to read in the mornings.
The Calm App
I love the Calm App for so many reasons. I’ve been using it for over 4 years now and it never fails me whether it’s calming myself down, getting in a quick meditation, reducing anxiety and stress.
The Calm App has a paid version, but they also have a FREE version!
2. Read a Book
Whether you listen to audio books or want a good old fashioned book in your hands – reading is an easy way to gain a vast amount of knowledge in a short period of time.
Below are a few of my favorite books that I highly recommend!
‘We Should All Be Millionaires’ – Rachel Rodgers
‘You are a BADASS at MAKING MONEY’ – Jen Sincero
‘The Four Agreements’ – Don Miguel Ruize
‘Personal Power through Awareness’ – Sanaya Roman
To be honest, I personally hate reading so I promise these books are worth the read/time and they’re also easy to read!
If you have Amazon Prime or the Audiobook app – these books are FREE to listen to.
3. Be Kind to Yourself
No one deserves your kindness and love more than yourself and if you can be kind to yourself, you’ll be kinder to others too. Good karma can start with you and come back to you 10X fold!!
In this economy, you can’t afford to be your own worst enemy. Being kind to yourself allows you to open up and grow into new and exciting things that the universe has in store for you!!
4. Be Clear of Your Weekly Goals
Managing your time and goals each week is SO important!!!
Having a to-do list or goal list can be nice, but actually integrating that list in your daily life will help you accomplish goals soooo much faster and increase your ROI (return on investment).
For example, if you want to read a new book. Maybe put 30 minutes into four days of the week that you cut out for reading instead of just putting ‘read book’ on your to do list. This way – you’ll actually get it done!
One goal at a time – baby steps!!
This is the calendar I personally use. I like that it not only breaks down the months, but also the weeks and days so you can get super detailed and organized with your planning.
But you can use your iCalendar or google calendar for FREE!!
5. Limit Your Screen Time
Social media can be a great tool, but it can also be a source of great negativity.
So many people’s negative thoughts these days come from social media. Whether it’s comparing yourself, thinking you don’t have enough, striving for unrealistic standards, and other harmful things.
It’s OKAY to walk away and take a break from your screen!!
One way I like to limit my screen time is not checking my phone for the first hour I wake up. The first hour you wake up is usually the most emotional you will feel all day and seeing one negative thing on social media/on your phone in the morning can set a bad tone for the day.
Whatever limiting your screen time means for you, it can make a big impact in a positive way for you mentally and in helping you reach your desired dreams/goals.
6. Spend Time with Friends
Spending time with friends is definitely a great investment in yourself to make. Friends fill us with joy and laughter, but they can also help us through hard times and may have knowledge we don’t have.
It’s important to spend quality time with the people we love because it’s good for the mind, body, AND soul. And it’s important to nourish all three.
There’s so many FREE things you can do with your friends while connecting with them like going on a picnic, going to the beach, coloring or painting, binge watching movies, playing games, etc.
Below is a game I loved playing with my friends to help us get to know each other on a deeper level.
Any quality time spent with friends is never wasted.
7. Do Something Hard
Doing something hard can be different for so many people, but whatever it is for you – JUST DO IT!
Whether it’s taking on a tedious task you’ve been avoiding or incorporating something into your weekly routine to improve your skills… doing something hard will help you get to where you want to go and FASTER than if you avoided it!!
Sometimes when I want to do something hard, but don’t know where to start – I just count to 3 and make myself pick one thing and just start from there because sometimes the hardest part is just getting started in general.
Once you start, it’s like you’re half way there!
8. Move Your Body
Moving your body helps you reduce stress, relieve anxiety, and build up your endorphins!! And endorphins make you happy!!
Moving your body doesn’t mean you have to do some intense workout. It can be something as simple as stretching, walks/hikes, light yoga. Basically any movement that brings you JOY while moving your body.
Over all this will help your mind, body, spirit, and it’s free!!

9. Get More Sleep
Not getting enough sleep has proven to DRASTICALLY affect you and your health – mentally, spiritually, and physically!
Compromising on sleep is not something you should do. Listen to your body!!
If you want to be your most productive self and make shit happen – get some damn sleep, it’s FREE!
When I have trouble sleeping, I usually listen to The Calm App that I mentioned above, but I also like wear a sleep mask like the one below to help me knock out.
10. Affirm Yourself
Speaking to yourself with daily affirmations is a GAME CHANGER and one of the easiest things you can do to invest in yourself!
My favorite way to incorporate daily affirmations is to either put them on my mirror or on my wall. Below is an example of my personal affirmations I’m currently saying daily.
As you can see, writing your own affirmations can be fun and is FREE. However, if you don’t know where to start with your affirmations, below is an affirmation deck that’s affordable, cute, and up lifting.
11. Make a Budget
This is probably the hardest thing to do on this list however it’s going to be one of the biggest game changers in your life!
Making a budget for yourself will allow you to know not only what you’re spending your money on and where you’re spending it, but it’ll also allow you to eventually invest in your dreams!
If you can keep track of your money, cut back on spending on unnecessary things, you’ll have more money for things like investing in your portfolio, getting subscriptions to audition and casting sites, and other things that will help you find opportunities in your modeling career!!!
It’ll take a few hours, but here’s my tips on how to begin budgeting.
- Go through your last 6 months of spending
- Make categories food, rent, utilities, phone bill, etc
- Take the last 6 months of spending for each category and find the average (find the average by adding the costs together and divide by 6) that will give you how much you spend on average each month
- Adjust bills to fit your monthly income
- From there, find where you can lower your costs or take away costs like subscriptions you forgot you were paying for
- Start saving the extra money you have for modeling opportunities like your portfolio or comp cards!
